I forgot what this is called but Sam said it's really popular in Hawaii, it's mixture of sashimi and sushi rice.

omfg that looks awesome. i want a good sushi dinner NOW :D. hehe yes that first picture was a take on chirashi sushi (sashimi over a bowl of sushi rice) in hawaii we have what's called a "poke don". Poke is a hawaiian dish with raw tuna pieces mixed with green onions, a lil chopped sweet onion, and seaweed mixed with a soy sauce mixture. Basically it's like ceviche (sp?) but a different flavoring. If it's put over rice like that, we call it a "poke don" cuz it's like oyakodonburi (chicken and egg over rice). LOL we make up our own names in hawaii :P. gah sorry this comment is so long, your food pictures made me so excited/hungry.

ReplyDeleteI'm so scared to eat the raw quail egg on masago nigiri. I guess I'll only try the raw quail eggs at really nice restaurants only. Scare of the risks of contracting salmonella from raw eggs =( (I'm such a Hypochondria!)
Was the salmon roe really really sweet? I've always wonder how tasteful is it, with no sushi rice? Are you one of those ppls that can eat shrimp heads? ;P Seems like you're having a great time. I've NEVER stepped inside a casino before, nor do I know how to gamble anything =(

ReplyDeleteI love sushi! AND I love Salmon too! I always get salmon sashimi whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant the picture of salmon that you have looks super good!
But I've never heard of raw quail egg :< but the masago looks yummy. Salmon Roe is really rich X_X I don't really like to eat that or uni (sea urchin). And that butterfish looks yummm!
O_O ... I think I'm going to make my boyfriend take me to a Japanese restaurant next time we're out XD

ReplyDeleteThat Crab & Scallop roll looks YUMMY. I love sushi, but I seriously haven't tried any the way sushi is suppose to be..with raw seafood. I don't know why I couldn't bring myself to swallow one of those raw fishes. >.<
Oo0o, the pictures looks so appetizing! But really, I cant eat sushi raw like that. -___- I like everything almost cooked. ha ha! I know I'm so lame I bet, but I can't help it. I'm scare of getting sick if I'm eating anything raw. If anything from the pictures, I would try the semi-cook shrimp and the head only. ha ha! I know I'm such a loser. lol. Will I'm sure you enjoyed your dinner so thats good. My sister worked there at the sushi bar, I'm not sure if they have more than one bar but she said the tips is GOOD! hehehe! Have a good night now!

ReplyDeleteWhoa, I've never seen the raw quail egg rolls before. o_O That's so cool.. omg scallops!! I love scallops too.. All of these dishes look so unique. I've actually never seen most of them before.
Btw, I saw on the news today that a Starbucks in Seattle is starting to sell alcohol and see how it goes. If it works out well, they're gonna expand that idea to Starbucks locations everywhere (or something). Have you heard of that?

The first picture...are you thinking of a poke bowl? We have lots of places here in Hawaii that sell these things. One of my favorites is called Spicy Ahi and they have all sorts of bowls. You can choose, white, brown or sushi rice for them, too. I'm making myself hungry and want to go there for lunch now! :)
