Sack Lunch

Hey ladies!

I made it a mission as of this morning to pack Minh's lunch everyday, and to cook dinner every night! He always jokes about how I'm the child-less homemaker, even though I work hard and pay income tax like everyone else! If the title is "homemaker," I'd prefer to call myself the household management.  I do have 3 dogs I consider my kids! ^_^

From what I have noticed, Vietnamese boys are raised to become Vietnamese men who never cook or do housework, ever.  They're all Momma's boys growing up! Vietnamese women really do a majority of the cooking, and housework (while also balancing their jobs and careers).  It's sad that I've just given up on encouraging the Mr. to do housework.  Sometimes it's just easier if I just do everything.  Does anyone feel that way?

It's also sad that I start enjoying tasks like laundry, and taking out the trash on trash day!!! lol  I almost feel relieved or a sense of accomplishment after chores get done!

Anyhow, I have yet to find my passion in cooking, but I'm starting my search for it right now! I wasn't born with any amazing cooking talent.

I found this super awesome Tuna Salad recipe from the Michelle Money and Lauren Show (love them!) on Youtube.
-Canned Tuna (drained)
-Cucumbers
-Pickles
-Red Grapes
-Mustard
-Mayo
-Salt/Pepper

I also add:

-Dill
-Red Onions

I made it for the first time today, and it's so good!  The grapes add a bit of sweetness, and the pickles add a little bit of crunch and taste to the tuna.  I put it in a sandwich for the bf for lunch today.  I hope he likes it as much as I do!

Today's Sack Lunch Menu:

1. Tuna Salad Sandwich
2. Grapes
3. Granola Bar

If you have any easy sack lunch ideas, please share!

In other news, I think I will wear MAC Naked Lunch eyeshadow today. :)

Have a great day everyone!

  1. i love doing that sort of stuff myself! it`s weird, but since i have ocp, it`s in my nature to want to control everything. i make kimchi`s food everyday as well as my own! i wish i had my own home though, because cooking the way i want to would be so much easier!

  3. Yummy! I love Tuna/Chicken salad. On salads, on bread/wraps/crakers..etc. Yum!

I was actually planning on making a chicken salad for lunch this week with dried cranberries and almond slices. :D

I don't know how much input I can give on your "situation" I am a first generation American (German Heritage) and my boyfriend whom I live with is Vietnamese, I've been "forcing" him to cook with me or a few dinners a week for us... we still haven't gotten the cleaning part down...

  4. I am also a childless homemaker right now, and I definitely find myself doing all the cooking/cleaning. I am constantly cleaning up after my husband and two doggies.

  5. haha I'm the same way! I'm homemaker for hubby and Kobi. :) I make Kobi's and Hub's bfast, lunch, and dinner everyday! I enjoy it and I try my best not to go out to eat and cook more.

Usually for Hub's sack lunch, I pack him what we had leftover the night before.. I purposely sometimes cook more just for lunch the next day! Depends on what it is.. not fish. haha..

  6. Yum. I love making chicken salad with leftovers. I can see myself using this same recipe but chicken instead of tuna. Wraps are also super easy for lunch and a good alternative when sandwiches get a little boring (try stuffing with roasted veggies! my fav). You can keep your breads and wraps from getting soggy if you put cheeses down first or lightly brushing with olive oil. Pasta salads are also easy and taste yummy with out heating. =]

  7. @LC You've already won the best mom award in my book. :) Kimchi is so lucky to have you take care of him! You should get another one!!

@Rubiiee It's so hard to get guys to do chores sometimes! I will definitely try some chicken salad with cranberries and almonds! That sounds delicious. :D Do you normally cook your chicken or do you buy rotisserie chicken?

@JC I can't imagine what it will be like when we have actual children running around. Will mommy have to do all the work then too? lol

@Sheila You are so good! I need to learn more recipes from you. I like it when you share them on your blog. :) I absolutely want to cook at home more (if not all the time).

@Fannie Thank you for the cheese wrap tip! What types of veggies do you often roast? I was thinking about roasting some beets for dinner tonight. I made an orchard chicken salad for his lunch today. It turned out pretty good! I realize I super love fruit (grapes and appples) in salads! The flavor is so good!

  12. hahah, I *SO* agree with you on the Vietnamese boys thing! My brother is totally like that as well as some of my Viet guy friends. My Korean boyfriend on the other hand has decided that he'll be the homemaker in the family. He cooks AND cleans more than me. I NEVER cook and I'll clean but not as much so he's taken up the task. I think it's an even trade since I'm the bigger breadwinner and if we did have kids, he'd probably be the one to stay home.

  13. @Lisa You are living the dream! ;) I really like how you said you show your love through the food you prepare. That's so sweet! It's definitely a great way of looking at being the family cook!

@Fannie Thank you!! I roasted some delicious mushrooms last night!

@Gjee Thanks babe!! I'm thinking about getting the Rebecca Minkoff Affair bag!! It's so cute! Reminds me a lot of the Chanel flap!

@Iyah I hope house hunting is going well for you! It's SO much fun to tour homes. It's one of my favorite hobbies lol. I love Zillow.com!!

@Amy I think that's a part of the Vietnamese culture we don't need to pass on to the future generation..lol. I think it's wonderful if everyone pitched in and helped around the house!
