A Christmas Idea

This is my Christmas idea.

My bf and I are donating a bag of dog food to my local animal shelter this holiday.
I've help raise money for The Seattle Humane Society since I moved to Seattle (especially when I didn't have any friends or pets here! )

Another way, we all can help the sheltered animals is by donating bags of food.
Our shelter here feeds the animals Costco dog food and cat food.
I just feel like it's a great way to spread the holiday cheer in your community.
Sometimes animals and pets are the last we think of when we do our holiday shopping.
I hope I can influence you to call up your animal shelter and find out what type of food they feed their animals. And from there, haul over a bag of food to your shelter. :D

Minh and I will be donating all of my hamster cages, toys, and bedding along with a huge bag of dog food this year. :D

Kirkland is Costco's Signature (Private Label) Brand

To all my friends, and family if you never know what to get me (that means you little sister!...just tell me that you've donated a bag of food to the animal shelter nearest you! =^_^=

Animal Lovers Unite!!!
I hope all of my readers will remember this post and pass it along to an animal loving friend!
Sometimes we forget the little things we can do to help another life.

Happy Holidays!

Love,

Steph

  1. You are SO right! I am a donator to the aspca, and giving back to my community is a great idea. I have a cage that I used to use for my guinea pig and it's collecting dust in my mom's attic. Thanks for the idea of donating it!

  2. That's such a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion.

Where i work, we used to do a $15 gift exchange for Xmas, but we stopped doing that for the past few years. Instead, we donated our time to make blankets for the Church so they can be given to children in third world countries. I'll be sure to include your suggestion in our next Xmas donation ideas.

THANK YOU!!

  5. aw that's really nice! i should find out if i can do that here in buffalo. it's horrible how some people abandon and abuse their pets. i hate hearing stories on the news about it. my dog is actually the first one i think about when i'm doing my shopping. i got him a new bed! he's so spoiled lol.

  10. Aw, Steph! :) I just donated a bag of kitten and cat food (from Costco as well!!) to my local animal shelter as well as cat snacks and other treats. I love my little furry kitties so deeply that I want to adopt them all! But unfortunately, I cannot because I have a small apt that's not enough to house a family of felines :p That and I don't want to develop a case of animal hoarding! :p

I'm happy you are spreading the joy to the shelters :D Good for you!

  11. You are so right! If they say dogs are man's best friend, why not pay it forward by actually BEING their best friend! Helping animals at the shelter is what I'd love to do on the side (when Baby gets a little older and will allow me some time).

I look at my dog everyday and count his blessings for him since I see so many homeless cats and dogs. Actually, we're all lucky to have a home and food to eat as well.

Let's help make this a warm and fulfilling season for every creature out there.

  12. Ah Steph! This really just warms my heart-- I absolutely adore animals and feel that whenever I can help them I absolutely will and must!

With my blog I feel like if I can impact even one person then I am thankful, and I truly hope people will take this blog post of yours into mind and heart and donate/ help out! I know I will!

I feel like Christmas is such a happy time, however for so many people and pets/ animals, it isn't. People often get caught up in the "spirit" of Christmas without really realizing that it is about giving, family and making others happy- not just being stressed out and receiving presents. I absolutely adore this post and abolutely adore you for writing it!

I definitely think you will make lots of animals happy this holiday season :)
    Thanks for this post!

  14. Aw Steph..you're so sweet. : ) You're right...animals are probably the last thing that people think about when thinking about the holidays. I kinda feel bad now because I'm around pets a lot! My boyfriend has SUCH a cute kitty cat (which he doesn't let me post pics of..GRR) and his sister has such a beautiful dog! I used to have a Pomeranian myself!

I've been wanting to adopt from the animal shelter lately...I know my mom is uncomfortable with the idea though. My family leads such busy lives that we're afraid we'll neglect the pets..

I'll definitely be spreading the word about animals and household pets for the holidays and hopefully, I'll have a chance to go to Petsmart and find out what I can do to help. I just went there last week and didn't even think of this!

Thanks for the kind reminder : )

  15. That's such a sweet thing to do! At my work, the dress code is business casual, but for the month of December, if you donate $5 or 5 cans of food, you get to wear jeans. I thought it was such a neat idea to get everyone to participate.

  23. That's very sweet of your guys! I used to rescue stray cats and kittens from the streets. Find them loving homes. It gets sad cause you end up getting very attach to the animal but in the end you know what's best for them.

  24. This is so great you are spreadin gthe word about this. Ever since my family got a dog, I've developed a really soft spot for animals (which I use to be very scared of before). Anyways I definitely will be donating some premium grade dog food.

  26. Hi Steph! What a wonderful thing to do, I admire your compassion for the animals in your community :D

  27. You've had a fantastic idea. Proves to be a good person committed to caring for the animals. It is true that sometimes we do not realize that they are only animals and has no way to fend for themselves. Every time I see a dog abandoned, My heart is very sad. I try to feed all who see you walking alone.

  28. This is an amazing idea!!!!!!! Animals need our help and it makes me so moved to know that there are people out their like you who genuinely care about animals! Gotta have more people like you out there! LOL. I've been spending all day with my dog, who lives with my parents, and I couldn't help but realize that time spent with animals is so precious!

  29. that's so awesome of you. I'm all about the doggies. I adopted Lucy from an animal rescue near me. I've been a sucker for dog rescues I've been donating money every year. Ummm...a bit more than I wanted to because I got carried away esp when you see their sad faces and know that millions are put to sleep each year. i am inspired by you to actually drop off stuff to my local shelter instead of just donating money by itself. I'll post it on my blog hopefully before new years!

  30. That is a fabulous idea! And so nice of u to get others to donate dog food instead of get u something!!

It's so nice that u bring dog awareness to everyone instead of just thinking of getting presents for people!!

  34. That is so sweet of you to help these poor animals who need the help. They did not do anything wrong, all they want is love. That is why when I do get a dog, it has to be from a shelter and not from a breeder.

  35. It's so nice of you guys to donate to the animal shelter. It always makes me sad seeing all the animals there. Have you watched the SPCA shows on tv? like Houston SPCA etc? breaks my heart </3

  37. That is such a great idea! Before I moved, I used to support my local shelter occasionally, and I agree - we have to help them who cannot help themselves, especially now.

I should contact my new local shelter... And thank you so much for sharing this!

  38. My husband and I are doing this too. I think this is one of the BEST ideas for Christmas! Thanks for spreading the word!

  39. it breaks my heart when i see those commercials with the animals in shelters i just wanna bring them all home. Its good to see that your helping them out, we all gotta eat right. I want to volunteer myself on a regular basis for animals, I feel like they are often overlooked.
